Gucci vs. Guess. Too similar?

3 years since the Gucci vs. Guess lawsuit was filed, they finally met up in court this week. This war definitely reminds me of the Christian Louboutin vs. YSL lawsuit which I posted about a while back. (Read it here.)

Gucci is claiming that there are about 1500 products that seem too similar to Gucci products, especially with it’s striking logo resemblance, as well as other aspects of many products.

Takes this shoe for example.

Guess is on top and Gucci is on the bottom. Gucci claims that the logo concept of the interlocking “G” is reflected in Guess’s logo. And in this particular case, the red strip down the side of the shoe seems copied.

Gucci is looking for over a hundred million dollars in damages for infringement of what it says are “studied imitations of the Gucci trademarks”.

Guess’s defense is that 99 percent of their products “could never be confused with Gucci”.

In my opinion they are too similar to be coincidental. A shoe with so much in common can not have been thought up by someone without the influence of seeing the Gucci shoe.

Dior ‘Diorshow Maximizer’ Lash Plumping Serum vs. Smashbox Layer Lash Primer

Having gone 28 years of my life (granted, that is my life;)) without a mascara primer, I didn’t know what I was missing! One swipe of a good primer and one swipe of mascara, and voilà, I have myself thicker, longer lashes.

Do they work? YES! Some are better than others but primers really do work.

The idea behind them is that they leave a coat of serum along the lashes and at the tip and when you apply the mascara, it actually coats the serum-coated lashes, forming a thicker, longer lash. It basically builds on it. It is the same concept as Continue reading

Solei Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base review

Fist of all, that is a darn long name! I believe it used to be called Bronze Universal.

Anyway, I am always searching for a great new bronzer, I’ve heard beyond raving reviews about this one and decided to bite the bullet. With a price tag of $48 I thought this better be beyond awesome. This is how Chanel describes it on their website: The velvety finish of this light cream-gel bronzer leaves your skin with a beautiful sun-kissed look. Wear it on its own to enhance your complexion, or for a hint of outdoors radiance, over or under your favorite CHANEL Foundation.

To begin, here is the product with all it’s packaging.

Maintaining it’s Chanel style, it’s sleek looking and sophisticated in a frosted tub with a black lid embossed with the Chanel logo. You get a lot for your money at 1 oz.The tub was the size of my palm, if not bigger.

Getting to the product itself, here Continue reading

Tinkerbell costume for Purim

My, where has the time gone?

This year Purim falls out on March 8th. (Read about Purim here on the Aish website or this Wikipedia article.)

In honor of Purim, my daughters’ school had a carnival and the kids went to school all dressed in their costumes! This year they wanted to be Tinkerbell. I believe this comes from their obsession show Jake and the Neverland Pirates. While the show is loosely based on Peter Pan, the cast is different and between you and me, there is no Tinkerbell on this show, but who’s gonna burst their bubble right? lol

Here are some pictures I took today of my girls all dressed up! Below I will tell you how I put it all together!

Costume: Purchased from 2 different buyers on Amazon. I was hoping they wouldn’t notice the slight differences in the costumes (one had more glittery wings than the other and the flower at the waist is a bit different). Thank goodness only my very perceptive 5 year old did, so I let her choose which wings she wanted. It is cold here in New York so they are wearing t-shirts and tights.

Shoes: Found them at a Disney store (perfect!). If you look closely, you will notice the original green elastic strap it came with. Although it held the foot better than I thought it would, I wished it was located closer to the ankle like a real mary jane. As they ran around the house with them they kept slipping off. So my creative self (pat on the back here;)) found the perfect pink organza ribbon to match the material under the butterfly at the toe part and used it to make an additional strap. I punctured holes at the sides of the shoes, ran the ribbon through and voilà. It worked.

Makeup: Thanks to my Coastal Scents 88 color eye shadow palette, I had plenty of lime greens, yellows and greens to create this look. With Yellows and Lime Greens I covered the entire lid, and added darker greens at the outer corners for a more wing tipped look. A tad of pink blush to liven up the cheeks and some shimmer makeup on the cheeks and forehead (not really visible in the pictures).

Hair: A top knot bun. Well, almost-I did the quickie version.

That’s it! You like? Let me know!

Makeup Forever Aqua Eyeliner review

Here are 15 out of 16 colors. For details check out Sephora‘s site where they are sold for $23.

Introduced in 2011, these incredible eye liners by Makeup Forever were first used at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami where the goal was to create bright eye looks. How does this pertain to you? Well, they stayed put at nearly 100 degrees of Miami heat and humidity! These are 100% waterproof (if you want to remove it you must use waterproof makeup remover).

Ever hesitate to go for a swim for fear of the dreaded “raccoon eyes” where your eye makeup smears and runs down your face? Or tried to cover your face after getting caught in a downpour? Come home after a night out and looked in shock at the mirror’s reflection? Fear no more!

The eyeliners are also amazing for brides who’s tears may flow (most of us have had tears as a bride no? Joyful tears:))

These are available in 16 colors to suit your every mood. More traditional? Go for the navy or black. More daring? Invite summer in with bright pink or Continue reading

Black eye shadow comparison

I was in need of a good matte black eye shadow and I was deciding between Perversion by Urban Decay and Blackout which is part of a Smashbox trio called Dark Room.

To begin, they both have nice packaging but Urban Decay’s is just so different I love that! And while this post is really about the black shadow I got excited when I saw that beautiful grey from the Smashbox pallete called Granite (the highlight color in there is called Opal). Urban decay does not have a matte grey eyeshadow as far as I’m aware. I love to do the smokey eye look with greys so as a whole the Smashox set did offer me more.

Now, back to the black. On the left you’ll see the swatches. Wow what a difference! To begin with the Smashbox was definitely smoother, more pigmented and definitely more matte. The Urban Decay shadow almost felt like it had grains, or something, that prevented it from smearing as smoothly as Smashbox. So the Smashbox trio wins way above the more hyped Urban Decay shadow. I am excited to use it and hope to do a tutorial of me wearing the look:)
